About Simien Mountains
The Simien Mountains are one of Africa's most dramatic landscapes — a vast plateau of jagged volcanic peaks, plummeting escarpments, and deep gorges stretching 100 miles across northern Ethiopia. Climbing to 4,620 meters at Ras Dashen (the highest point in Ethiopia), the Simiens offer some of the finest mountain trekking on the continent.
The mountains are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to several species found nowhere else on Earth, including the Gelada baboon, the Walia ibex, and the Ethiopian wolf.
The Simien Mountains are often described as the "roof of Africa." The escarpment views — with sheer drops of over 1,000 meters — are among the most breathtaking natural spectacles on the planet.
